Tobias Bijl (1981) is a Dutch photographic artist based in Rotterdam, deeply engaged with the intersections of collective memory and historical evolution. His long-term, research-based projects weave together visual narratives that explore recurring patterns in history, aiming to unravel universal values that shed light on human nature.

With a foundation in Philosophy from Utrecht University and a photography degree from the Fotoacademie Amsterdam (2017), Tobias has been recognized for his compelling work. His graduation project Lost Takes earned several nominations and awards, including Best Debut at the Dutch Photobook Award and the Best Dutch Book Design. From 2019 to 2022, he further honed his craft in the ISSP International Masterclass under the mentorship of Lisa Barnard.

Currently, Tobias is developing Buska, a project that examines the colonial legacy and environmental impact of the oil industry in Curaçao. Through a visual exploration of the native Datu-cactus, he uncovers the historical layers of exploitation and resilience, connecting past injustices to contemporary environmental challenges.
